The nursery is the area set up to raise calves. It is divided into fenced areas for calves of different ages.
At two months of age, calves weigh twice as much as they did at birth and they drink up to five litres of milk a day. At the age of three months, they begin to eat hay.
Since they are constantly out and about on the farm, they now use smartphones more often: • For management: accounting, taxes, administrative tasks, regulatory obligations (e.g., reporting calf births)
For the herd: live updates on the individual behaviour of cows using sensors placed on the animals (e.g., alerts for cows going into labour)
For milk quality: online reception of lab results for milk quality analysis
For weather: specific sites and apps tell them when is the best time to plant and harvest in the fields
